Did hip pain ever wake you up? It work me up this morning with a feeling that a knife was being stuck into my left hip! It was only 2:30AM so I wasn’t really keen on jumping out of bed to do something about it, but when I realized it wasn’t going away, I got up and got my Perfect Ball. Thank heaven, it worked, and I want to share with you what I did to get relief.
I just wasn’t in the mood to be on the floor at 2:30AM, so I just put the ball right on my hip and laid there in bed, with all my weight on the ball. It hurt like the dickens, but I kept breathing and ultimately I sunk into it. Gradually the pain released, so I moved the ball a bit and “BAM,” a whole new painful point. So, I tried to relax and eventually sunk into that one too.
It took about 1-2 minutes for each point, but I kept finding new painful spasms, resting into them, and they’d go away. After a while I couldn’t find any more points in my left hip, so I decided to check out the muscle of the thigh that rotates the pelvis and causes a long list of aches and pains. The muscle is called rectus femoris, and the point is almost exactly where your fingertips touch your thigh when you just rest your arms next to your body (easier to find standing up than lying in bed). If you’ve read Treat Yourself to Pain-Free Living you know exactly where it is.
So, I put the ball there, rolled over on my left side and had my right leg on top of my left leg and “Bingo!” I found it! Holy Crow! I almost cried! Breathe…..Breathe…..Relax. It eventually worked, and my hip pain was totally gone.
I spent a little time on my right hip. There wasn’t much going on there, but I did find a few tender points — nothing like the left side, but I’m sure they weren’t helping the situation.
This whole thing took a half-hour, but I was able to get back to sleep without pain, and then I woke up at a more reasonable time, still pain-free. As I laid there I was thinking how important it is for people to know how to self-treat. If I hadn’t known what to do I would have been up all night, and today would have been miserable.
I hope this little hint will help you if you ever find yourself in this situation.
Wishing you well,
Julie
